Deep Blue Sea

Deep Blue Sea is a 1999 science fiction thriller film that stars Saffron Burrows, Thomas Jane, LL Cool J, and Samuel L. Jackson. The film was directed by Renny Harlin and was released in the United States on July 28, 1999.

Plot

The film begins with four teenagers sailing on a small yacht. One of them accidentally drops red wine into the water which looks like blood. The yacht begins to shake violently and the teens all back up in the middle, and the shaking stops as a rogue shark surfaces from underneath the yacht and smashes the middle of the yacht, knocking all four of the teens into the ocean. As they struggle to pull themselves back into the yacht, the shark is spotted swimming towards them. The teens still can't get up onto the yacht and the shark is just about to attack them before a harpoon is fired into it. The shark tries to attack again before another harpoon is fired into it.

On a remote top-secret floating facility called Aquatica, a team of scientists are searching for a cure for Alzheimer's disease. The team consists of Dr. Susan McCallister (Saffron Burrows), the scientist behind the experiment who decided to begin finding a cure after seeing her father suffers from Alzheimer's; Jim Whitlock (Stellan Skarsgård); Dr. Janice Higgins (Jacqueline McKenzie); Carter Blake (Thomas Jane), a shark wrangler; Tom Scoggins (Michael Rapaport), an engineer; Sherman "Preacher" Dudley (LL Cool J), a religious, wise-cracking cook; and Brenda Kerns (Aida Turturro), the communications specialist.
