The Goodyear Television Playhouse is a live television
anthology series sponsored by
Goodyear and produced from 1951 to 1957, during the "
Golden Age of Television". The series aired on
NBC on Sundays from 9:00 to 10:00 P.M.
Overview
The series presented both original stories and adaptations of popular works. Goodyear alternated sponsorship with
Philco, with the program being titled
Philco Television Playhouse on alternate weeks. In 1955,
Alcoa took over as full-time sponsor and the show was retitled
The Alcoa Hour. The three series were essentially the same, with the only real difference being the name of the sponsor.
