Lipstick Jungle is an American
TV comedy-drama. It was created by
DeAnn Heline and
Eileen Heisler for
NBC Universal Television Studio. The hour-long series is based on the best-selling novel of the
same name by
Candace Bushnell, who also serves as
executive producer alongside
showrunner Oliver Goldstick.
The pilot was directed by
Gary Winick.

The show premiered on February 7, 2008 as a midseason replacement taking over
ER's spot at 10:00PM Eastern/9:00PM Central.

The show was originally slated to have 13 episodes. However, due to the
2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, only 7 episodes were produced. It competed indirectly with
ABC's
Cashmere Mafia, created by Bushnell's former creative partner from
Sex and the City, Darren Star.
On February 24, 2008, NBC ordered six additional scripts of
