Popular Mechanics for Kids (sometimes shortened to PMK) was a
Canadian children's television series, based on the magazine
Popular Mechanics. The show's purpose was to teach young kids how things work. It aired between 1997 and 2001 on
Global. It is most notable for starting the careers of
Elisha Cuthbert,
Tyler Kyte (who has started by the second series) and
Jay Baruchel. Jay was replaced after season 1 by
Tyler Kyte. They were later joined by
Vanessa Lengies, though none of her segments featured the other cast members. It currently airs on
Discovery Kids Canada and
BBC Kids. It also starred
Charles Powell as Charlie.
The show was filmed in
Montreal, and is currently distributed on home video/DVD by
Koch Vision.
It also aired in the
United States in
syndication.
