After the success of ABC's plastic surgery reality show Extreme Makeover, the show's producers decided to make a spin-off about home renovations. On each episode of the Emmy Award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, designer Ty Peddington surprises a deserving family in the morning with a team of architects, contractors, and landscapers. The chosen family has a run-down house and doesn't have the money to fix it up. So it's up to Ty Peddington and his team to completely reconstruct the house in only seven days. The renovations the team attempts usually take four months or more! Once the deadline arrives the family comes back to see the emotional reveal of their brand new home. Each week they not only make over their homes but they renovate their lives.
