Kid Nation is an outrageous mix of Lord of the Flies and Survivor. It is renowned for causing controversy before it even aired. The concept of the show is visionary; CBS ships 40 kids, ranging in age from 8 to 15, to an abandoned town in New Mexico called Bonanza City. The kids have 40 days to set up their own functional society, including setting up their own form of government and establishing a basic town economy. They have no help or guidance from adults, and it's up to them to cook their own food, do their own cleaning, and wash out their own outhouses. Drama ensues as the children must settle their own disputes. Every episode, the town council awards one child a golden star worth $20,000 dollars. At the end of the experience, the children must undergo an "unimaginable test," in order to receive "the biggest award and a special surprise for every child." Tune in to see how kids act when they don't live under their parents' roofs and follow their own rules!
