Ask InstantCast:
Are Starring Roles One Size Fits All?

measuringtape plus size Q: It's always been my dream to become an actor. The truth is I'm overweight. I worry that while I'm very talented, I might never be able to get cast in the parts that can launch my career. Do I need to lose weight to succeed in my dreams?

A: The first thing you need to do is look in the mirror and decide whether or not you actually like what you see. It doesn't really matter what size you wear, but if you're unhappy, that will reflect in your performance. The most important thing is to be happy with your looks. If that means losing weight, go for it. If it means staying just as you are, then keep your chin up.

The good news is there are great parts for all kinds of people who come in all shapes and sizes. Famous celebrities are just like everyone else in that aspect. Think about the difference between Kate Moss, then Scarlett Johansson, and then Jennifer Hudson. They have completely different looks but are all very successful. Why? Because they have confidence in who they are, what they look like, and they have the talent to back it. They find the parts that fit their look and style. So can you.

Don't let your dreams go because you think you don't have the looks to succeed. For every look there is a great part just waiting to be filled by you.
